Michael Lyons
Impact Investor | Founder @ [Y] Impact Ventures & Global Petals
I thought I was going to be a banker until my entrepreneurial mentors encouraged another path. Instead, I traveled down to South America where I started Global Petals: a tech-enabled import business in the luxury flower industry. It quickly became cash flow positive and profitable. We import 10's of thousands of flowers every year, introduced over 350+ new products into the US market, and have built sales channels in 7 states including all the major luxury markets of LA, NYC, and Chicago.
Through this experience, I found my passion for growing organizations, so I spent time in the San Francisco Bay area developing cutting-edge digital marketing and growth strategies. From there I moved to Atlanta to build a digital organization that leads complex digital transformations for enterprise companies across all industries including financial services (JP Morgan, other bulge bracket banks), Technology (Akamai, Tricentis, NWEA, PDI), Healthcare (Halyard, PerkinElmer, ClearDATA, CEA), Travel & Hospitality (Airbnb, Travel Leaders Group - Vacation.com) and manufacturing (THK).
After using my knowledge for corporate profit, I saught to re-apply those skills for broader societal impact. That led me to form [Y] Impact Ventures. We are redefining affordable housing by investing in real estate and providing more than a roof over people's heads while doing it. Specifically, we build supportive communities and provide resources to members that help them achieve their full potential. It's a systematic solution for sustainable social impact - when housing providers help their community become the best version of themselves, there is a measurable impact on individuals, families, the community at large, and also yes - the bottom line.
